WooCommerce to Shopify migration tools compared (2026)

If you're comparing WooCommerce to Shopify migration tools, four come up first: Shopify's own free Store Migration app, the Matrixify app, and the paid migration services Cart2Cart and LitExtension. Between them they move your products, customers and orders, although Shopify's free app stops at products and customers, so your past orders need one of the others.
In short
Shopify's free app moves products and customers. For past orders you need a paid app or service.
No tool moves your design or your customer passwords, and none of them knows which of your old URLs matter most.
A tool is enough for a simple catalog and a standard design. If Google traffic, reviews or your brand matter, someone has to do the rest.
You should know who's writing this. Design by Karina is a strategy-first boutique Shopify agency in Rotterdam for premium fashion and beauty brands. We design and build Shopify stores for brands across the Netherlands and Belgium, and we turn what makes your brand different into a reason to choose you, and moving stores from WooCommerce is part of that work. So I have a reason to tell you that you need help, which is exactly why I'll also tell you when you don't.
Which tools move a WooCommerce store to Shopify?
Tool | What it is | How it is priced | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
Store Migration app | Shopify's own app. You export files from WooCommerce and upload them | Free | A simple catalog, done yourself |
Matrixify | A Shopify app that imports and exports spreadsheets | From $20 per 30 days, with a free demo plan of 10 items per job | Bigger catalogs, redirects, careful control |
Cart2Cart | A paid service that connects both stores and copies the data | By the number of items and the options you pick, free demo first | Hands-off moving of data |
LitExtension | A paid service like Cart2Cart, with optional extra help | By the number of products, orders, customers and posts, free demo of up to 100 of each | Hands-off moving of data, with support |
Prices from each tool's own page, checked 5 November 2026. They're in dollars and they change, so check them before you decide.
What does each migration tool move?
Store Migration app moves your products and customers from WooCommerce export files. The products come in as drafts, so you can check them before anyone sees them. It's the simplest start, and it's free. Past orders don't come along this way, so for those Shopify's guide points to third-party apps such as LitExtension, Matrixify and Ablestar. Products with many variants or custom fields often need fixing by hand afterwards, so leave time for that.
Matrixify works through spreadsheets. You export from WooCommerce, clean the data in a sheet and import it into Shopify. It can also import past orders, redirects, metafields and blog posts. It takes more work, but it gives you the most control, which is what you want when the catalog is big.
Cart2Cart and LitExtension connect to both stores and copy the data for you: products, variants, categories, customers, orders, and often reviews, blog posts and redirects as extra options. You run a free demo with a sample first, then pay for the full move, so you can see how your data comes out before you spend anything. One thing to check first: LitExtension says customers and orders need a Shopify Grow plan or higher, or its CSV service.
What doesn't any tool move?
This is the part I'd look at before you choose a tool, because the answer is the same for all four.
What | Why no tool moves it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Your design | WordPress themes don't run on Shopify | Design and build the Shopify store |
Your URLs | Shopify uses its own structure, like /products/ and /collections/, so your addresses change. Some tools can create redirects, but none of them knows which pages matter most to you | Add a 301 redirect from every old URL to the new one, and check the important ones yourself |
Customer passwords | Customer passwords never move between platforms | Customers set a new password on Shopify. With Shopify's customer accounts, they sign in with their email and a one-time code instead |
Plugin features | Each WooCommerce plugin needs a Shopify app or a theme feature instead | List every plugin and decide what replaces it |
SEO details | Titles, descriptions and alt text come over only partly | Check them page by page |
Subscriptions | Active subscriptions sit with your payment provider | Move them with the subscription app and the provider |
When is a migration tool enough on its own?
A tool is enough when your catalog is simple, you get little traffic from Google, you have few plugins and you're fine with a standard Shopify design for now. In that case I'd say go ahead. Shopify's free app or a paid service, plus careful checking, will do it, and you don't need us or anyone else.
You need more than a tool when Google brings you a real share of your sales, when your products have many variants or custom fields, when you rely on plugins for reviews, bundles or subscriptions, or when the move is also the moment to fix how the store looks and sells. In those cases the data is the least of your worries, because what you can lose on the way is your rankings, your reviews or your best product pages.
How do you keep your Google rankings when you move?
Nobody can promise you'll keep every position, because that part is up to Google. But if you do these things in this order, you carry over as much as possible.
Make a list of every URL that gets traffic or links, before you move anything.
Map each one to its new Shopify URL and add a 301 redirect, before you switch your domain. Shopify has a redirects section, and you can import them as a file.
Move the page titles and meta descriptions, and check the important ones by hand.
Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console on launch day.
Watch Search Console for errors in the weeks after launch and fix them, because that's when anything the move missed shows up.
Good to know in the Netherlands
A migration tool moves data, not your Dutch setup. iDEAL | Wero and Bancontact have to be switched on in Shopify, and your KVK and BTW numbers, your 14-day cooling-off text and the withdrawal button required since June 2026 have to be in the new store too. And before you cancel your WooCommerce hosting, make a full export of your orders, even if you decide not to move them. The Belastingdienst says you have to keep your records for seven years, and ten for sales under the EU one-stop-shop scheme.
Tool, freelancer or agency?
Use a tool if your store is simple and you have the time to check every product. Use a freelancer if you need help with the data but have the design covered. Use an agency if the move is also a redesign, or if your brand and your Google traffic are too important to gamble with.
With us, the move to Shopify always comes with a new store, because moving a store that isn't selling well just moves the problem. We work out who is buying and what they need to know, we plan the redirects and SEO, we move the data, and we design and build the new store. The Migration Module sits on top of The Launch or The Atelier, and we go through it with you on the intro call. You can follow a move like this in our AMA case, a Belgian jewelry brand going from WooCommerce to Shopify.

Questions
What is the best tool to migrate WooCommerce to Shopify?
There isn't one best Shopify migration app, because it depends on your store. For a simple catalog, Shopify's free Store Migration app. For bigger catalogs, past orders or more control, Matrixify. If you want the data moved for you, a paid service like Cart2Cart or LitExtension. None of them moves your design, and you'll still want to check your redirects yourself.
Can I migrate WooCommerce to Shopify for free?
Partly. With Shopify's free Store Migration app you can move your products and customers, but past orders need a paid app or service. You still need a Shopify plan, and you set up the design and the redirects yourself.
Will I lose my Google rankings when I move to Shopify?
Nobody can promise you won't, but you keep as much as possible if you add a 301 redirect from every old URL to its new one and move your titles and descriptions. It's normal for positions to move a little while Google indexes the new store. If they drop and stay down, missing redirects are the first thing I'd check.
Can customers keep their passwords?
No. Customer passwords never move between platforms, and Shopify says the same in its own guide. Your customers set a new password on Shopify. With Shopify's customer accounts, they sign in with their email and a one-time code instead.
Can I keep my reviews?
Usually, yes, as long as your current system can export them. Review apps like Judge.me can import reviews from a file, and the paid migration services can move them as an option. Check how they look afterwards, because Judge.me says reviews brought over from WooCommerce won't be verified and won't appear in its Google Shopping feed. It has also closed its WooCommerce app, so you ask its support for the export.
Do you only move the data?
No. The move is always part of a new Shopify store we design and build for you, because if the store isn't selling well, moving the data alone won't change that.
How much does a WooCommerce to Shopify migration tool cost?
Shopify's own Store Migration app is free. Matrixify starts at $20 per 30 days, and Cart2Cart and LitExtension charge by how much you move, so you see your price in their calculator. All three have a free demo, so run that first. The tool is only one part of the cost, and we go through the rest in What does a migration to Shopify cost?
Which Shopify plan do I need to migrate?
You need a paid plan for the store itself, and on the Dutch pricing page Basic starts at €21 a month billed yearly, or €28 monthly. New stores get 3 days free, then €1 a month for 3 months, which leaves you time to test an import. Check the tool you pick as well, because LitExtension says it needs Grow or higher for customers and orders.
Can Shopify import WooCommerce orders?
Not from a CSV file. Shopify's guide says orders can't be imported that way, so you need a third-party app like Matrixify, LitExtension or Ablestar. Ask yourself first whether you need them in Shopify, because for some stores a safe export is enough.
How do I export my products from WooCommerce?
You export your products and customers from your WordPress admin as CSV files, and then you upload them in Shopify's Store Migration app. Do a test with a few products first, and look at how variants and images come through before you run the whole catalog.
How long should I keep my redirects?
As long as you can. Google says at least a year, and that from a visitor's point of view they could stay forever. Shopify allows up to 100,000 redirects, so that's rarely a limit. One thing to know: a redirect in Shopify only works when the old address no longer loads a page.
How much does a Shopify agency cost in the Netherlands?
There's no standard price, because agencies include very different things. We wrote out how it works in What does a Shopify agency cost?
What is the best Shopify agency in Rotterdam?
We're a Shopify agency in Rotterdam, so you won't get a neutral answer from me. What I'd look for on a WooCommerce move is an agency that talks about your URLs and your customers before it talks about tools.
