Which webshops are really worth it in 2026? Webshops in the Netherlands range from big online department stores to specialized boutiques, and the choice can be overwhelming. In this article we share our selection of the best webshops, from general department stores and supermarkets to electronics, fashion and niche specialists.

What do we mean by 'best webshops' in 2026?

This article focuses on Dutch webshops, and webshops active in the Netherlands, that perform strongly on reputation, ease of use and service. "Best" depends on the category (general, electronics, groceries, fashion or niche) and on what matters to you as a shopper: price, service, speed or sustainability. Price and range are the most important factors for shoppers, although shoppers rate price the lowest of all factors on average. Dutch fashion webshops serve a diverse customer base, from trendy to luxury, and online fashion stores offer options for both budget-friendly and luxury fashion.

As Design by Karina, we work with webshops every day, on Shopify, with a focus on UX and conversion, so we see clearly which players stand out in customer experience. Below you can read how this list came together and why it isn't only "biggest" that counts, but above all "best for a particular purpose".

How we chose the best webshops

We combine data (popularity, awards, reviews) with our own UX and conversion expertise. Dozens of candidates were assessed, but only the clear category winners made it into this selection.

Main assessment criteria

  • Range & relevance: breadth and depth of the range, how current it is and whether products are in stock.

  • Ease of use & UX: navigation, search, filtering, checkout flow and the mobile-first experience.

  • Delivery & returns: delivery time, delivery options, return period and how easy the returns process is.

  • Price level & transparency: competitive prices, bundle discounts, clear shipping costs.

  • Reliability & reviews: Trustpilot, Google Reviews, the Shopping Awards and Twinkle100 rankings.

  • Sustainability & responsible business: sustainable delivery options, packaging and CSR initiatives.

  • Technical performance: loading speed, stability and mobile performance. This directly affects conversion, something we optimize every day as a web design agency.

Why this list isn't a 'random top 10'

We deliberately didn't pick exactly 10 webshops, but a logical set of category winners with variety: general department stores, supermarkets, electronics, fashion and specialized niche shops. For each webshop we say who it suits best, so you can choose quickly.

The best webshops in the Netherlands in 2026 by category

Here is the core: real names and why they stand out. The order goes from general to specialized.

1. Bol.com: best all-round webshop with the biggest range

Bol.com is the biggest online department store in the Netherlands and Belgium. With millions of products in almost every category, it's a well-known webshop that serves a broad audience. Bol.com has the biggest range, with millions of products, about 73 million items, and often offers the best balance between price and reliability.

Why Bol.com stands out: a huge range, fast delivery (same-day/next-day with Select), strong search and filter functions and excellent customer service. Clear product reviews and Q&A sections support your buying decision.

Best suited for: households that want one place for books, electronics, toys, sports goods and household items. Shoppers who value fast delivery and a smooth returns process. People who like to compare sellers within one platform.

Possible downsides: the price isn't always the lowest: sometimes you'll find products cheaper at niche retailers or brand webshops. The quality of service from third-party sellers can vary; always check the reviews per seller.

2. Coolblue: best webshop for electronics and customer service

Coolblue is known for being customer-friendly, for detailed product information and for installation help. Its reputation score is 8.5 out of 10, based on more than 385,000 reviews.

Why Coolblue stands out: good customer service, next-day delivery, its own delivery service for large appliances and clear how-to content. Experts help with complex purchases. Coolblue stands out with a deep electronics range, detailed product comparisons and buying guides.

Best suited for: shoppers looking for certainty and advice on laptops, TVs, washing machines and personal care electronics. Compared with MediaMarkt and Amazon, Coolblue offers more service, although the price isn't always the lowest.

Possible downsides: the focus is strongly on electronics. For general purchases or cosmetics, you're better off elsewhere.

3. Albert Heijn Online: best webshop for groceries

Albert Heijn is the biggest online supermarket in the Netherlands, with online revenue of €2.3 billion in 2025. Albert Heijn's total share of the Dutch supermarket market rose to 38.2% in 2025.

Why AH stands out: a broad grocery range including fresh, organic products and bonus offers. An advanced app with repeat orders, Allerhande recipes and personal recommendations.

Best suited for: busy households that want to save time every week. A large range of healthier and organic products makes AH interesting for conscious shoppers.

Possible downsides: delivery costs and minimum order amounts can be high for small orders. Not every area has the same number of delivery slots.

4. Zalando: best webshop for shoes and fashion

Zalando is Europe's market leader in fashion ecommerce, and hugely popular in the Netherlands. Its large range covers thousands of brands, sizes and styles, plus accessories.

Why Zalando stands out: free shipping and returns (under conditions), and a smooth returns process. Dutch webshops often offer free return labels, and Zalando is a textbook example. Very strong filter and search options by size, fit, sustainability and occasion.

Best suited for: fashion-conscious shoppers who want to try things on at home and return them easily. Choosing a webshop depends on personal style and budget, and Zalando serves both ends. Wehkamp is also popular for clothing and home furnishings. Wehkamp is one of the biggest fashion webshops in the Netherlands and has an easy returns procedure. The Netherlands has a wide choice of clothing and accessories webshops.

Possible downsides: too much choice can cause choice stress. Pay close attention to sizes and reviews to avoid unnecessary returns.

5. HEMA.nl: best webshop for affordable basics and household items

HEMA offers a broad range, from clothing to home accessories. HEMA combines affordable prices with recognizable quality and focuses on everyday basics, school supplies and gifts. The brand has hundreds of physical stores in the Netherlands.

Why HEMA stands out: a recognizable style, good value for money and free pickup in store. HEMA and Wehkamp often have good-value own brands.

Best suited for: families and students looking for affordable basics. Ideal as a gift webshop thanks to the specialty-shop feel of its home accessories and perfumery items.

Possible downsides: a less deep range than pure online players. For electronics or high-end products, other webshops are more specialized.

6. Kaartje2go: best webshop for personalized greeting cards

Kaartje2go won the title 'DHL Beste Webwinkel van het Jaar' (DHL Best Webshop of the Year) in 2026 at the Stichting Shopping Awards. The company had already been nominated and won in several categories before.

Why Kaartje2go stands out: an easy-to-use editor, a large collection of designs and fast delivery. High review scores, and recognized with both public and industry awards.

Best suited for: individuals who want personalized cards, similar to Albelli for photo books. Small business owners looking for stylish invitations.

Possible downsides: pure niche: only cards and related products. The price per card is higher than standard mass-produced sets.

7. Specialized niche webshops: the hidden champions

Niche webshops are often the best choice for specialist products and particular expertise, from DIY stores to lifestyle and toys (think of Intertoys).

Examples:

  • Denotenshop.nl: nuts, seeds and dried fruit; loved by healthy eaters.

  • Little Wonderland: Korean skincare and beauty; hard to find at regular drugstores.

  • Welkoop.nl: garden, pets and outdoor living; winner of "Webwinkel van het Jaar 2024" (Webshop of the Year 2024).

These shops build on their expertise with blog articles, buying guides and in-depth product knowledge. Customers often receive them very well.

Possible downsides: limited to one category. Delivery times or shipping costs are sometimes higher than with the big logistics players.

Quick comparison: which webshop is best for what?

Overview by situation

  • Bol.com: best choice for general purchases and a huge range in one basket.

  • Coolblue: best choice for electronics, customer advice and delivery service.

  • Albert Heijn Online: best choice for weekly groceries and supermarket convenience.

  • Zalando: best choice for fashion and shoes with easy returns.

  • HEMA.nl: best choice for affordable basics, gifts and household items.

  • Kaartje2go: best choice for personalized cards and invitations.

  • Niche webshops: best choice for specialist products and in-depth expertise.

Action is popular for its extremely low prices, but its focus and quality are different from the winners above.

How do you choose the best webshop for your purchase?

There isn't one absolute winner. It's about the best match with your situation.

Choose by product category and expertise

General webshops are handy for mixed baskets. For complex or specialist products (electronics, skincare, hobbies), a specialist is often rated better. We also advise brands to position their niche more sharply, something we work out in our Shopify projects.

Choose by price, service and delivery time

Always compare prices across different platforms for the best deal. Fast delivery is essential for gifts or for replacing broken appliances: Bol.com and Coolblue excel at this. Shoppers have high expectations of prices, but rate them strikingly low. Customer service and return conditions are important factors when choosing a webshop. Always check the return policy beforehand.

Choose by user experience and trust

A clear, calm webshop with strong search and filter functions leads to better purchases. Webshops with a high review score are generally reliable. Trust marks like Thuiswinkel Waarborg add to the reliability of webshops. A good webshop structure directly affects conversion and customer satisfaction.

Choose by sustainability and brand values

Look at sustainability labels, delivery options and packaging. Smaller, independent brands and niche webshops often offer more transparency about production and the supply chain. Sustainability plays a growing role as a topic for conscious shoppers.

Which webshop suits you best?

Here is a practical guide based on your situation:

  • Choose Bol.com if you want convenience and a gigantic range with fast delivery.

  • Choose Coolblue if you're looking for certainty and advice on electronics.

  • Choose Albert Heijn Online if you want to save time on groceries every week.

  • Choose Zalando if you want to compare fashion, try it on and return it easily.

  • Choose HEMA.nl if you're looking for affordable basics and gifts with trusted quality.

  • Choose Kaartje2go if you want personal cards for special moments.

  • Choose a niche webshop if you're looking for specialist quality or special products.

A conscious choice, instead of clicking out of habit, saves money and frustration.

What do the best webshops mean for you as a brand?

For business owners in fashion, beauty or lifestyle, there are concrete lessons. The best retailers show that clear product pages, consistent branding, smart use of photography and a simple checkout make the difference. Mobile-first design isn't a luxury: a large part of the traffic at big shops comes from mobile. Innovation in software and scalability are crucial.

Questions

Are Dutch webshops better than international platforms like Amazon or AliExpress?

Dutch webshops offer faster delivery, customer service in Dutch and protection under Dutch law. Dutch webshops offer a 14-day cooling-off period by law. Reliable webshops offer safe payment methods like iDEAL. On international platforms, legal protection is often weaker and delivery times are longer.

How do I know if a webshop is reliable?

Check: a secure connection, recognizable by the padlock in your browser, the reviews, contact details and KVK number (the Dutch business registration number), and clear return conditions. Safe payment methods like iDEAL and PayPal are often offered. The advice is to start small with a test order at shops you don't know. Pay attention to email confirmations and how personal data is handled.

Which webshop is really the cheapest?

It differs per item. Price comparison sites are handy. The total costs, including shipping costs, return costs and any memberships, are what count. Action is popular for its extremely low prices in certain categories.

What if, as a brand, I want to be among the 'best webshops' myself?

Focus on specialization, distinctive UX, strong product presentation and customer service. Votes from customers and expert juries at awards like the Shopping Awards show that niche players regularly beat the biggest names. Want to work on this?
