What does a migration to Shopify cost?

A Shopify migration costs whatever your catalog, your SEO, your apps and your design ask for, so there's no honest single price for it. A tool can move your products and customers, but someone still has to protect your URLs, rebuild the way people buy from you and check the result, and that's where most of the cost of a Shopify migration sits.
In short
The price depends on your catalog, your redirects, your apps, your languages and how much of the design changes.
The import is rarely the expensive part. The hours go into cleaning the data, planning the redirects and checking the result.
Customer passwords never move between platforms, so your customers set a new password on Shopify.

I'll go through what moves the price, so you know what you're asking for when you talk to an agency.
We're Design by Karina, a strategy-first boutique Shopify agency in Rotterdam for premium fashion and beauty brands. We design and build Shopify stores for brands across the Netherlands and Belgium, and we turn what makes your brand different into a reason to choose you, and moving stores over from other platforms is part of that work.
What drives migration cost?
Driver | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|
Catalog size and variants | More products and options mean more to map, clean up and check |
URL and SEO redirects | Every important old URL needs its own planned 301 redirect |
Design level | Moving data into a theme is one job, redesigning your pages is another |
Apps and integrations | Reviews, subscriptions, email, and your accounting, inventory or shipping tools |
Languages and markets | Every extra language means more pages, more redirects and more shipping rules |
Content quality | Messy or thin product data takes time to clean up |
Training and go-live | Learning the new admin, switching the domain and redirects, checking everything after launch |
A cheap tool can still leave you with a lot of cleanup, so I'd compare the whole project, not only what the importer costs. We looked at the options in WooCommerce to Shopify migration tools compared.
Data move versus design-and-build
Moving rows from one spreadsheet to another is one job. Designing size charts for fashion, ingredient blocks for beauty, collection filters and a store that's easy to buy from on a phone is another, and that second part is what decides whether people buy from you once you've moved.
That's why a migration with us always comes with a new store. Your package covers the store itself, and the Migration Module sits on top of it for your data, your redirects and the switch to the new store. We price the Module after we've looked at your store, because every catalog and every SEO situation is different, and we'd rather understand that first than give you a number that doesn't fit.
It's also why we don't copy a store over as it is. Moving a store that isn't selling well just moves the problem, and building twice is the one thing we'll always talk you out of. You can read more about how we work on our Shopify migration page.
How catalog size changes the work
A beauty line of forty products with clean titles is a very different project from a fashion store with two thousand variants where the sizes and colors are written differently on every product. Both are completely normal, but they don't cost the same to move.
So before you ask anyone for a number, export a sample of what you have: your product titles, tags, images and inventory, plus a list of the URLs that bring in traffic. It doesn't need to be perfect, because the point is to show the real situation. That sample is what makes a proposal accurate.
Why SEO redirects are not optional
If Google already sends people to your product and collection pages, those addresses have to lead somewhere in the new store. Without a redirect, people land on an error page, and the visibility you've built starts to slip away. Skipping them can look like a saving while you're planning the move, but you end up paying for it in lost visitors.
That's why every old page should get a 301 redirect to its new address, so you keep as much of your Google visibility as possible. Google's own advice is to keep those redirects in place for at least a year, and it says it's normal for visibility to move for a while during a move. So when you budget, count the time for a redirect map and for checking everything afterwards, not only for the importer.
Apps, reviews and subscriptions
Make a list of every app you use today, even the ones you've almost forgotten you're paying for. Reviews move when your current system can export them. Subscriptions, custom pricing and connections to your accounting or inventory tools each need their own plan, because not all of them have a Shopify equivalent. The app nobody mentioned is usually where the surprise comes from, so it's much better to name them all at the start.
A sensible way to budget
A few steps will get you to a number that fits:
Decide whether you want a new store, or only your data moved into a stronger theme.
Count your products, your languages and the apps you have to keep.
List your 50 most visited URLs for the redirects.
Choose the store you need. With us, that's The Launch from €4,500 or The Atelier from €6,900.
Ask for the migration as a named item in the same proposal. With us, that's the Migration Module.
If you're still deciding on the platform itself, read WooCommerce alternatives for Dutch webshops and our honest comparison of Shopify vs WooCommerce. You can see all our packages on packages & pricing.
Good to know in the Netherlands
A few Dutch things don't come over by themselves, so put them in your budget. iDEAL | Wero has to be switched on in the new store, and Shopify asks for things like euros as a currency, the Netherlands as an active market and clear company details before it works. Bancontact is there for your Belgian customers. Your KVK and BTW numbers have to be easy to find on the new store too, together with the 14-day cooling-off period and the withdrawal button Dutch webshops have needed since June 2026. And keep a copy of your old orders before you close your old store, because the Belastingdienst says you have to keep your records for seven years.
Questions
Is there a fixed price to migrate to Shopify?
Not one that's honest for every store, because it depends on your catalog, your redirects, your apps and your design. The store itself has a starting point, The Launch from €4,500 or The Atelier from €6,900. These prices exclude BTW. The Migration Module comes on top, and once we've looked at your store you get one price for it in your proposal.
Can I migrate with a free tool only?
Yes, if your catalog is simple, you're happy with a standard theme and you do your own redirect map. When your brand and your Google traffic matter, I'd pair the tool with someone who designs and builds the store around it.
Does migration include a new design?
Not automatically. Your data can move into a standard theme, and then you have the same store on a different platform, with the same places where customers hesitate. With us it does, because a migration always comes with a new store. Everything gets touched anyway, so it's the best moment to get things like size, fit and trust right from the first day.
How long does a migration take?
It depends on the size of your catalog, the state of your data and the package around it. Once we've seen your current store, your proposal gives you an exact timeline, and we treat it as a commitment, not an estimate.
Will my customers need new passwords?
Yes. Customer passwords never move between platforms, so your customers set a new password on Shopify. It helps to plan a clear message for launch week, so nobody is caught by surprise.
How much does a Shopify agency cost in the Netherlands?
It depends on what's in the price, and a migration comes on top of the store itself. We wrote out how agencies charge, and what's usually included, in What does a Shopify agency cost?
Will I lose my Google rankings when I migrate to Shopify?
Some positions can move for a while, and Google says itself that this is normal during a move. What you can do is keep as much as possible, with a 301 redirect for every old URL that matters, the same titles and descriptions on your main pages, and a look at Search Console afterwards. Nobody can promise you more than that, so I'd be careful with anyone who does.
Does my store stay online during the migration?
Yes. Your old store keeps selling while the new one is built on Shopify, and your customers only see the change when you connect your domain. That moment is worth planning, away from your busiest weeks, because orders that come in during the last days still have to end up in the new store.
Can I keep my domain name?
Yes. You can connect a domain you already own to Shopify, so your address stays the same. What changes is the part after the domain, because Shopify uses its own paths like /products/ and /collections/, and that's why you need the redirects.
What happens to my old orders?
That depends on where you're coming from. From WooCommerce, Shopify's free app moves your products and customers, but past orders need a paid app or service. Either way, keep a full export of your orders, because you need those records for your administration.
Can I move my reviews to Shopify?
Usually, yes, if your current system can export them. Check how they look afterwards, because they may not count as verified anymore. Judge.me, for example, says reviews imported from WooCommerce won't be verified on Shopify. We go through the options in WooCommerce to Shopify migration tools compared.
What is the best Shopify agency in Rotterdam?
You'll find us when you search for that, because we're a Shopify agency in Rotterdam, so take that into account. For a migration I wouldn't start with the city. I'd ask any agency who makes the redirect map, who checks the store after the switch and whether they've moved a store from your platform before.
