A month of a Shopify store shown as a receipt: the plan, card payments, iDEAL payments and apps, with the monthly total at the bottom.

Book a free call and we’ll go through your numbers together.

Shopify has three standard plans: Basic costs €21, Grow €59 and Advanced €289 a month when you pay yearly, or €28, €78 and €384 if you pay monthly. Shopify Plus starts at €2,100 a month. On top of that you pay per payment: with Shopify Payments on Basic, 1.9% + €0.25 for an online card payment and a fixed €0.29 for iDEAL.

In short

  • What you pay for Shopify pricing is your plan plus fees per payment and the apps you choose: Basic from €21 a month, Grow from €59, Advanced from €289 and Plus from €2,100 a month when billed yearly.

  • Paying yearly saves about a quarter. If you use a third-party payment provider, Shopify charges an extra 2%, 1% or 0.6% per order on top.

  • Choose your plan on what you need, such as staff accounts, POS or live shipping rates, and not only on the transaction fees.

Not sure which plan you need? Book a free intro call and we'll look together at which plan and payment methods fit your store.

Shopify's pricing page looks simple, but for business owners and brands in fashion, beauty and lifestyle who want to start or improve an online store, and also for service providers looking for a professional website without a store, the real trade-off is in the total monthly cost. It isn't just your plan that counts, but also the transaction fees for iDEAL and card payments, POS costs, any fees for third-party payment providers and extra spending on apps or themes. That's exactly why it's smart to look beyond the number next to a plan: every recurring euro affects how much room you have left to grow profitably.

In this article you'll read how the Shopify plans differ, which monthly costs come with them, what you pay per payment method, how POS and third-party payment providers feed into your costs, and how to choose a plan that fits your stage and your needs. What does Shopify cost per month?

Shopify's Dutch pricing page shows prices in euros. You choose between paying monthly or yearly, and yearly is about a quarter cheaper. Every plan includes the full online store, unlimited products, themes, Shopify's checkout, reports and translations. The difference is in who can work in your store, how many locations you manage and a number of advanced features; Basic has no staff accounts, so only the owner can log in.

You can try it first: Shopify lets you try it free for 3 days, without a credit card. After that, on most plans you pay €1 a month for the first 3 months, and only then the regular price. There are no setup fees.

Pay monthly or yearly?

Paying yearly saves about 25% on every plan; with annual billing, a full year looks like this:

  • Basic: €252 a year instead of €336, so €84 less.

  • Grow: €708 a year instead of €936, so €228 less.

  • Advanced: €3,468 a year instead of €4,608, so €1,140 less.

My advice: pay monthly while you're still testing or don't yet know which plan suits you, and switch to yearly once your store has been running for a few months and you know you're staying. Shopify says you can change or cancel the standard plans at any time. On Plus you choose a term of one or three years, and you can cancel after that term.

Which Shopify plan fits your store?

A more expensive plan doesn't make your store prettier, and it doesn't make it easier to find. It changes who can work in it, and a few things behind the scenes. So I'd choose based on what you need today, the features you really need right now, and only upgrade when your store asks for it.

Shopify Basic

For most new brands, or for someone starting a new store, this Shopify plan is often the best start: in the Netherlands you pay €21 a month when billed yearly, or €28 if you pay monthly. You get the full online store with unlimited products, up to 10 inventory locations, more than 200 reports, translations, Shopify Markets to sell in other countries, and B2B with up to 3 catalogs. Extra staff accounts aren't included; on this plan only the owner can log in, although you can invite outside collaborators, such as your designer or developer. If you work alone, or with someone who takes a look now and then, Basic is enough. So Basic gives you a full online store, while Starter only works with a checkout link.

Shopify Grow

For when other people work in your store too, such as someone for customer service or for marketing. This plan often suits a team that needs more room. You get up to 5 staff accounts, and an online card payment costs 1.8% + €0.25 instead of 1.9% + €0.25. Everything you have in Basic is included.

Shopify Advanced

For larger teams, with up to 15 staff accounts. This plan is built for stores that want to show third-party calculated shipping rates or adapt their store per region, and with heavier integrations you can also hit API rate limits sooner on the lower plans. An online card payment costs 1.6% + €0.25, and a payment through a third-party payment provider costs you 0.6% extra, compared with 2% on Basic.

Shopify Plus

For brands with high volumes or a complex organisation, and also if you run a complex, international operation. Plus starts at €2,100 a month on a three-year contract, and the price depends on the contract term. Among other things you get a fully customisable checkout, unlimited staff accounts, B2B catalogs, 200 inventory locations, up to 9 extra stores at no extra charge, 20 POS Pro locations and lower rates, such as €0.15 for an iDEAL payment; enterprise teams can also use POS Pro through the included locations, and this plan comes with a checkout for high volumes. Most brands that are just starting out don't need it.

What about Shopify Starter?

Online you still read about Shopify Starter, a plan of a few dollars for selling through social media. It isn't on the Dutch pricing page (checked in November 2026). What is there is Agentic, for €0 a month. That isn't an online store: you put your products in Shopify's product catalog, choose which AI channels you sell through and pay only when you sell something, with card rates from 1.9% + €0.25.

What are Shopify's transaction fees?

Besides your plan, you pay for every payment, and on the pricing page Agentic is now the new alternative to Starter. If you use Shopify Payments, Shopify's built-in payment provider, you only pay the rates below. They come straight off your payout, so you don't see them on your Shopify invoice. If you use a third-party payment provider, you pay that provider's rates and Shopify adds its own percentage on top, which does appear on your invoice.

So with Shopify Payments you pay no third-party transaction fees. According to the Help Center, that also applies to manual payment methods, such as a bank transfer, and to PayPal when Shopify Payments is your main provider.

What does iDEAL cost on Shopify?

With Shopify Payments, an iDEAL payment on Basic, Grow and Advanced costs a fixed €0.29, whatever the size of the order. A card payment is a percentage plus €0.25, so the higher your average order, the bigger the difference. On a €60 order, a card payment on Basic costs €1.39 and an iDEAL payment €0.29.

How iDEAL is changing now that it's becoming Wero, and how to switch it on in your store, you can read in iDEAL and Wero in your Shopify store. Want to work it out with your own numbers? Use the calculator below.

Using Shopify Payments, or Mollie or another payment provider

You can use Shopify with a third-party payment provider, for example because you already have a contract or because you also take payments outside your store. Then you pay two kinds of fees: your provider's rates and Shopify's transaction fee; with external gateways, those extra payment fees range from 0.2% to 2.0%, depending on your plan. That's a percentage of every order, so it grows with your revenue.

On €10,000 of revenue a month through a third-party provider, you pay Shopify €200 extra on Basic, €100 on Grow and €60 on Advanced: an additional Shopify percentage on top of what your provider charges. With iDEAL that extra stands out, because an iDEAL payment through Shopify Payments costs only €0.29. Shopify also asks you to switch off conflicting payment providers before it activates local payment methods such as iDEAL and Bancontact. If you work with a third-party provider, look carefully at which combination of providers and local payment methods, whichever works best for your situation, you use side by side.

When does a more expensive Shopify plan pay off?

Grow and Advanced have lower card rates, so the question makes sense: do you earn back the extra cost on transaction fees? With Shopify Payments, usually only at a substantial revenue:

  • Basic to Grow: Grow costs €38 a month more (billed yearly) and saves 0.1% per card payment. You earn that back from about €38,000 a month in card revenue. On iDEAL it saves nothing, because that stays €0.29.

  • Grow to Advanced: Advanced costs €230 a month more and saves 0.2% per card payment. You earn that back from about €115,000 a month in card revenue.

With a third-party payment provider it's different, because Shopify's extra percentage drops much faster. From Basic to Grow it goes from 2% to 1%, and you earn that back from about €3,800 a month in revenue through that provider. From Grow to Advanced it goes from 1% to 0.6%, which pays back from about €57,500 a month.

So run the numbers with your own figures, because what pays off depends on your payment mix. With Shopify Payments you usually choose Grow for the staff accounts, and Advanced for the live shipping rates or larger teams, not for the rates. That's especially relevant if you sell mostly through iDEAL. You can always upgrade later as your needs change, and that also shifts as your payment mix or revenue changes.

Shopify POS: what does selling in a physical shop cost?

If you also sell at markets, in a pop-up or in your own shop, Shopify offers a basic version of POS in every paid plan. You sell with your phone or a Shopify card reader, and your inventory, customers and orders stay in sync with your online store. That basic version used to be called POS Lite. Only a limited number of staff can use it, you get simple customer profiles, and a return can only be made at the location where the product was bought.

POS Pro costs an additional €79 a month per location, and according to Shopify it's billed yearly. You get unlimited staff on the register with roles and permissions, in-store inventory management, extended customer profiles, returns and exchanges at any location, in-store pickup and retail reports. Plus includes 20 POS Pro locations. A brand with one shop and an online store on Basic pays €21 plus €79, so €100 a month, plus the transaction fees. On top of that, count on hardware, such as a card reader and possibly a cash drawer or receipt printer.

Which other costs come on top?

Most stores pay more than just the plan and the transaction fees. These are the costs you'll come across most often:

  • Apps. The app's developer sets the price: monthly, per use or one-off. Recurring app charges appear on your Shopify invoice. Only choose the apps you really need, because separate amounts add up every month, especially when you add extra functionality beyond the built-in features. Also think of email as a separate cost category, for example Shopify Email or an external email tool.

  • A theme. Shopify has free themes. You buy a paid theme once, and in our count of the Theme Store most cost between 150 and 400 US dollars. More in How do you choose the right Shopify theme? Wix and Squarespace are often cheaper on the market for a simple website.

  • Your domain name. Every store gets a free myshopify.com address, but you pay for your own domain every year, through Shopify or through the company where you already have it. You can also move an existing domain to Shopify or simply connect it. A domain you buy through Shopify comes on a separate invoice.

  • Shipping labels. If you buy labels through Shopify, they appear on your invoice.

  • Marketplaces. Syncing orders from marketplaces is free up to 50 a month. Above that, Shopify charges 1%, up to a maximum of 99 US dollars a month, as stated on the pricing page.

What you don't have to pay for: some costs come on top of your plan, but on every plan hosting, an SSL certificate and maintenance of the platform are already included. So you don't need a separate contract for those. With WooCommerce the software is free, but you arrange and pay for hosting and security yourself.

Good to know in the Netherlands

On shopify.com/nl/prijzen the prices are in euros, and Shopify bills your plan in the currency of your billing profile. If you have a store in Europe, Shopify asks you to enter a VAT number in your billing profile, or to state that you don't have one. Shopify checks that number through VIES. How VAT appears on your invoice you can see in your admin under Settings and Billing, which is also where you export your invoices for your bookkeeping.

iDEAL costs €0.29 per payment with Shopify Payments, and is gradually turning into Wero over the coming period. Klarna costs 2.99% + €0.35. Automatic VAT calculation in the checkout is included in every plan.

In Belgium: many customers there pay with Bancontact. With Shopify Payments that costs €0.39 per payment on Basic, Grow and Advanced, and €0.29 on Plus. If you sell from the Netherlands to Belgian customers too, switch on Bancontact next to iDEAL.

What a plan doesn't solve

I've seen €15,000 websites that don't convert.

The plan is often the easiest part of the bill. The difference between Basic and Grow is €38 a month. A store where visitors can't find what they're looking for, or hesitate at the payment step, costs you more than that. So start with the cheapest plan that does what you need, and put your energy into what your customers see.

Checklist: how to choose your Shopify plan

  1. How many people work in your store? Just you: Basic. Two to five regular people with their own account: Grow.

  2. How do your customers pay? If they mostly pay with iDEAL, a more expensive plan saves you hardly anything on transaction fees.

  3. Do you use Shopify Payments or a third-party provider? With a third-party provider you add Shopify's extra percentage, and then Grow can pay off sooner.

  4. Do you need live shipping rates, or a store per region? Then look at Advanced, especially if you also want more extensive analytics or reports.

  5. Do you have a physical shop? Add POS Pro per location, plus the hardware.

  6. Which apps do you really need? List them with their monthly price before you install them.

  7. Monthly or yearly? Monthly while you're testing, yearly once you know you're staying.

  8. Check the pricing page. On the day you choose, look at shopify.com/nl/prijzen, because rates change now and then, and decide your next step from there.

Set it up yourself, a freelancer or an agency?

Choosing a plan and switching on Shopify Payments is something you can easily do yourself: the steps in the admin are clear and you don't need much technical knowledge to start, but you do have to decide which parts you do yourself and which you outsource. What you mainly gain with help is everything around it and which choices are smart in the longer term, because that can help you make choices that cost less later.

Why business owners choose us

  • Strategy before pixels. Before we open a design file, we want to understand who buys from you and what those people need to see first.

  • A background in product design. Before I started Design by Karina, I worked in product design at Uber, where I helped shape payment experiences for drivers.

  • Fewer projects, more attention. We work on a limited number of projects at a time, so I'm closely involved in every one.

  • We tell you honestly. If Basic is enough for your store, we'll tell you.

  • Launch is the starting line. After launch we keep improving your store based on what real visitors do.

Shopify pricing: a quick summary

Shopify Basic costs €21 a month when billed yearly, Grow €59 and Advanced €289, or €28, €78 and €384 a month. Plus starts at €2,100 a month. With Shopify Payments on Basic you pay 1.9% + €0.25 per online card payment and €0.29 per iDEAL payment, and with a third-party provider 2%, 1% or 0.6% comes on top. POS Pro costs €79 a month per shop, and apps, a theme and your domain come on top. Start with Basic, pay monthly while you're testing, and switch when your team or your store asks for it.

What we see with clients

When business owners ask us which plan they need, the answer is usually simpler than they expect. The question often behind it is whether the costs stay under control every month. That's why we put the plan, the payment methods and every app with its monthly price in our proposal, so you know in advance what comes back every month.

Questions

What does Shopify cost per month?

Shopify Basic costs €21 a month when billed yearly or €28 if you pay monthly, Grow €59 or €78 and Advanced €289 or €384. Shopify Plus starts at €2,100 a month on a three-year contract. On top of that you pay transaction fees and the apps you use, often as a fixed amount per month for extra functionality. New stores can try it free for 3 days and then, on most plans, pay €1 a month for the first 3 months.

Which Shopify plan is best for a new store?

In most cases Basic. It includes the full online store, with unlimited products, reports, Shopify Markets and translations, which makes it easier to choose the plan that makes sense for a new or growing store. It's often the best plan to start with, especially if you don't yet need a team, a physical shop or advanced features; switch to Grow once more people with their own account work in your store, and to Advanced when you need live shipping rates or a store per region. Starter doesn't offer a full online store, only a checkout link, so it's no alternative for new stores that need a full storefront.

What's the difference between Shopify Basic and Grow?

Grow gives you up to 5 staff accounts, which is one of the clearest differences from Basic, and a slightly lower card rate: 1.8% + €0.25 instead of 1.9% + €0.25. With a third-party payment provider, Shopify's extra fee drops from 2% to 1%. Grow costs €38 a month more when billed yearly.

What are Shopify's transaction fees?

With Shopify Payments, an online card payment costs 1.9% + €0.25 on Basic, 1.8% + €0.25 on Grow and 1.6% + €0.25 on Advanced. The exact payment rates differ per country. If you use a third-party payment provider, Shopify charges another 2%, 1% or 0.6% per order on top of that provider's rates, depending on your plan; that surcharge is Shopify's own transaction fee.

What does iDEAL cost on Shopify?

With Shopify Payments, an iDEAL payment costs €0.29 on Basic, Grow and Advanced, and €0.15 on Plus, however large the order. With a third-party provider you pay that provider's iDEAL rate, plus Shopify's percentage on top of every order.

Can I use Shopify with Mollie or another payment provider?

Yes. You then pay your provider's rates, with a surcharge from Shopify in the form of an additional transaction fee that ranges from 0.2% to 2.0% with external gateways, depending on the plan: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. With Shopify Payments that extra percentage disappears.

Does Shopify Starter still exist in the Netherlands?

Starter is no longer on Shopify's Dutch pricing page (checked in November 2026). What is there is the new Agentic, for €0 a month, to sell your products through AI channels. That isn't an online store: Starter only offered a checkout link and no full online store, and with Agentic you only pay per sale; it's mainly relevant if you want to test a new sales channel, not as a replacement for a full online store.

What does Shopify Plus cost?

Shopify Plus starts at €2,100 a month on a three-year contract; the price on a one-year contract is higher. You can also choose one year. Plus has lower rates, such as 1.4% + €0.25 per card payment and €0.15 per iDEAL payment, and among other things a fully customisable checkout, 20 POS Pro locations and a checkout for high volumes. It gets the most out of Shopify if you sell at enterprise level, or when Plus makes sense because you sell omnichannel with several shops or markets.

What does Shopify POS cost?

The basic features of Shopify POS are included in every paid plan. POS Pro costs €79 a month per shop location, billed yearly, and gives you, among other things, unlimited staff on the register, inventory management and returns at any location. In-person card payments on Basic cost from 0.75% + €0.10. You buy hardware, such as a card reader, separately.

Can I switch Shopify plans later?

Yes. According to Shopify you can change or cancel your plan at any time. On Plus you choose a term of one or three years, and you can cancel after that term. Your products, customers and orders simply stay in your store, and from there you can grow into a higher plan as your needs change.

What does it cost to have a Shopify store built?

That depends on your products, your languages and how far the design goes. With us, The Launch starts at €4,500, The Atelier at €6,900 and Bespoke at €9,500, and you pay the Shopify plan to Shopify yourself on top of that. A full overview of all the costs is in What does a Shopify store cost in 2026?
